Changes to telemedicine coverage for Medicare patients

Effective October 1, 2025, several telemedicine flexibilities for patients have expired. For patients insured by a government program, this impacts any upcoming virtual visits with your healthcare provider. 

Learning experiences:

Required:

  • Orientation (2-4 weeks)
  • Anticoagulation clinic (6-8 weeks)*
  • Bariatrics and endocrinology (6-8 weeks)*
  • Primary care (6-8 weeks)
  • Specialty pharmacy (4-6 weeks)*
  • System and practice management (4-6 weeks) 

Electives:

  • Medication safety (6-8 weeks)
  • Solid organ transplant (6-8 weeks)*
  • Value based care (6-8 weeks)
  • Pediatrics clinic (6-8 weeks)*
  • Oncology (6-8 weeks)*
  • Vulnerable populations (6-8 weeks)*

* denotes rotations that do not primarily (>75% of rotation days) take place at the main program office in Chantilly, VA. Residents are eligible for reimbursement for mileage for travel to other practice sites.   

Presentations and projects:

  • ACPE-accredited continuing education presentation
  • Clinical controversy presentation
  • Practice advancement protocol  
  • Research or quality improvement project  
  • Formulary monograph or drug class review (based on need) 

Teaching opportunities: 

  • Precepting (APPE and/or PGY1 pharmacy resident)

  • ASHP Mid-Year Clinical Meeting (December)
  • ASHP Pharmacy Futures (June)
