Learn about how Inova is expanding our seamless system of care in the Eastern Region of Northern Virginia

Inova's Eastern Region Development Plan is designed to meet the growing health care needs of those who live in Inova's Eastern Region service area (Alexandria, Mount Vernon, and Franconia-Springfield). Once complete, the Eastern Region will have expanded clinical programs and services housed in state-of-the-art health care facilities with flexibility for decades to come. These new investments will expand Inova’s comprehensive and integrated network, offering a consistent and seamless system of Inova care throughout the Northern Virginia region.

Inova Health Center – Oakville

Inova Health Center – Oakville is an outpatient facility that includes a full-service emergency room, surgery center, imaging and laboratory services, and primary and specialty care. The state-of-the-art health center is the anchor of a new mixed-use development in Alexandria’s Oakville Triangle, across from Potomac Yard and minutes from Crystal City.

Inova Alexandria Hospital at Landmark

On December 22, 2020, Inova, the City of Alexandria, and development partners announced plans for a mixed-use community and state-of-the-art medical campus at Landmark.

In order to facilitate the relocation of the hospital from its current location to Landmark Mall, Inova plans to work with the community as it moves forward with a request to rezone the existing hospital site at Seminary Road for townhouse and single-family use.

Inova Mount Vernon Hospital

In addition to retaining its role as the community's hospital with emergency, inpatient and outpatient services, Inova Mount Vernon has also deepened its focus as a regional hub for behavioral health and post-acute care. In 2023, Inova Mount Vernon opened a new 20-bed behavioral health unit and a critical illness recovery hospital to care for medically complex patients who require an extended stay in a specialty hospital.

Announcements

Inova Franconia-Springfield Hospital

Inova will begin construction on the Inova Franconia-Springfield Hospital in 2024. Slated to open in 2028, the new hospital will ensure that the greater Springfield community has continued access to world-class healthcare options – close to home.

Situated on the land adjacent to the Inova HealthPlex at Franconia-Springfield, Inova has taken great care in developing the hospital and campus plan. The proposal also features a series of garden spaces, pathways, and activity nodes that will be accessible to patients and the community.
