This Critical Illness Recover Hospital (CIRH) offers an extended hospital stay for additional healing and recovery before being discharged home, or to the next level of care. A CIRH, also known as a Long-Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH), is an Inova service for patients who require specialized clinical support, but no longer need the intensive care provided in an acute care hospital.
Located in Inova Mount Vernon Hospital, the post-intensive-care unit hospital specializes in providing comprehensive, individualized treatment focused on critical care nursing, respiratory therapy and early functional improvement. Its physician-led interdisciplinary care teams develop personalized, evidence-based treatment plans to restore a patient’s ability to breathe, eat, talk, think and walk again.
As the first critical illness recovery hospital serving Northern Virginia, Inova Specialty Hospital is equipped with 32 private beds. The phased opening begins in May 2023 and is a joint venture between Inova Health and Select Medical Corporation, the largest operator of specialty hospitals in the U.S. The hospital is state-certified, accredited by leading healthcare quality organizations and is a Medicare-certified long-term acute care hospital.
