At Inova Alexandria Hospital Birthing Center, we are committed to offering you comfort, specialized expertise and advanced technology. We focus on childbirth as a natural, intimate event, to be experienced by you and your family in a private room with a comfortable environment. Each room has a special birthing bed that adjusts so you can deliver in the position you find most comfortable. Each room is also equipped with its own private bathroom, shower, television and telephone. "Rooming-in" allows baby to stay in mom’s room at all times, except during transitions and exams.

Inova Brock Family Antenatal Testing Center provides specialized care for pregnancies that are at risk for maternal, fetal or obstetric complications. Our maternal-fetal medicine specialists, known as perinatologists, work as a team with our staff of expert perinatal nurses. Together, they assist obstetricians or nurse-midwives by offering specialized services and compassionate care to mothers and their unborn babies, from pre-pregnancy counseling through delivery.

The center uses state-of-the-art technology in a comfortable and private setting to assist:

• Prospective parents seeking genetic counseling and/or genetic testing
• Pregnant women who need comprehensive diagnostic tests to determine the health of their babies
• Women whose pregnancies are considered high risk

Most women have uncomplicated pregnancies and deliveries, yet it’s comforting to know that Inova Alexandria Hospital offers a fully staffed NICU that features the latest technology. Premature or special needs newborns receive around the-clock care in our family-centered NICU by specially trained board-certified newborn physicians, known as neonatologists, as well as specialized nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and nutritionists.

Your baby’s team of caregivers will explain to you procedures, equipment and the special care and needs of high risk or premature infants. Before you go home with your baby, we will give you complete instructions on home care. If your baby is being discharged on medications and an apnea monitor, you may have the option of spending one night to care for your infant where you will be supported by the NICU staff. We are always close by to answer your questions and provide help if you need it.
