Inova Loudoun Hospital offers both inpatient and outpatient (same day) surgeries. Our hospital's newly renovated and expanded surgical center features eight state-of-the-art operating suites, two special procedure rooms, and the latest technology in minimally-invasive robotic surgery: the robotic-assisted daVinci® Surgical System and MAKOplasty® Total Hip and Knee. In addition to our regularly scheduled surgeries, our surgery department is staffed for emergency surgery, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

goal sealInova Loudoun Hospital is a Joint Commission Center of Excellence for hip, knee, and spinal surgery. We are proud to be one of only 27 hospitals nationwide and the only hospital in Northern Virginia to earn straight “A’s” in patient safety since the inception of the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade in 2012.

Our physicians, nurses and staff are here to assist you with preparing for surgery. We want your stay to be as comfortable and convenient as possible.

Read our brochure to learn more about what to expect before and after surgery. Keep in mind, these are just guidelines and helpful tips. Ask your doctor if you have specific questions or are unsure about how to prepare for your surgery.

Surgery is scheduled by your surgeon's office. Be sure to contact your insurance company prior to scheduling your surgery to see if you need any referrals and what co-pays you may be responsible for.

Inova Loudoun Hospital offers both Same Day Surgery (outpatient) as well as inpatient surgery. Different surgical procedures may require different lengths of stay in the hospital. We provide a comfortable lounge equipped with free wi-fi for visitors waiting for loved ones undergoing a procedure. If you are scheduled for surgery, you will be asked some questions regarding about your medical history as well as questions about allergies, medications and the planned procedure.

After your surgery, our staff will take you to the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) where you will begin to wake up and recover. You will stay in the PACU until you are discharged home or moved to a room to continue your recovery. You may still be a little groggy and need some assistance with your medications and getting to the bathroom.

If you are discharged home, it is important to have a family member or friend stay with you during the first 24 hours after surgery. When you are ready to be discharged, a nurse will review your doctor's orders with you, provide information about medications and diet, and answer any questions you may have.

The daVinci® Surgical System features a 3D high definition vision system, special instruments, and computer software that allow your surgeon to operate with enhanced vision, precision, dexterity and control. Studies of daVinci surgery have demonstrated a number of patient benefits including shorter hospital stays, fewer complications, smaller incisions associated with minimal scarring, less need for narcotic pain medication, less blood loss, and a quicker recovery.

Inova Loudoun Hospital is pleased to offer the daVinci Xi technology – the latest addition to the daVinci® product line. This robot can be used across a wide spectrum of minimally-invasive surgical procedures and has been optimized for multi-quadrant surgeries (procedures in which instruments must be able to reach up and down and across the abdomen or chest). The daVinci technology is used in varying general laparoscopic, urologic, gynecologic, colorectal, cardiac, and/or thoracic procedures.

Does Your Child Have Special Sensory Needs? Surgical procedures are challenging for kids, but for those with a sensory processing disorder (SPD) – such as autism – we know that the experience can be particularly difficult. That's why Inova Loudoun Hospital’s surgical services team developed our sensory-friendly program.

In partnership with The Arc of Loudoun, Loudoun County Public Schools, and our Outpatient Specialty Rehabilitation Center, we've designed a comprehensive sensory-friendly training program for our surgical services team. We've also implemented new protocols and physical modifications to our department in an effort to significantly reduce sensory problems for our children and their families.

Our rooms are equipped with dimmed lighting and soft music; unnecessary medical equipment is removed from the child's sight; and sensory-friendly items like weighted blankets, iPads and fidget toys are readily available for families.

We’ve also designed a social story for parents/guardians to review with children in advance. English | Spanish

In an effort to better communicate with your child, we ask that parents/guardians complete a parental intake form outlining the child's preferred communication style, motivators, stressors, and sensory challenges.
