Holiday Hours

With the exception of Inova hospitals, Inova Emergency Care and Inova-GoHealth Urgent Care, all Inova outpatient offices will be closed for the Christmas and New Year's Day holidays – Wednesday, Dec. 25 and Wednesday, Jan. 1.

Some Inova care sites have additional closures for the holidays, which will be noted on the relevant location pages. 

The Inova Fairfax Hospital endocrinology teaching faculty provide comprehensive endocrine services at two Inova Medical Group offices in Northern Virginia and also provide full-time consultation for inpatients at Inova Fairfax Hospital. All physician faculty are board certified in internal medicine and endocrinology.

Dr. Stephen Clement joined Inova Fairfax Hospital as Medical Director of Endocrinology Services in 2014. He directs the endocrine consultation service for the hospital. He attended the University of South Alabama Medical School and completed his internship and residency at Tulane University Affiliated Hospitals in New Orleans, LA. He completed his fellowship in endocrinology at Joslin Diabetes Center, Boston, MA.

Dr. Clement served as a U.S. Army physician and director of the diabetes program at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. Following is army service he joined the faculty of Georgetown University and served as chief of the diabetes program and acting chief of the endocrine division. His research interests include clinical diabetes, medical education and inpatient endocrinology.

Dr. Michelle W. Jeffery is board certified in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism, and internal medicine. She has a special interest in the management of diabetes, pituitary and thyroid disorders.

Dr. Jeffery became interested in endocrinology after witnessing the impact diabetes mellitus had on her grandfathers. Through her fellowship training she developed an appreciation for thyroidal and pituitary diseases as well. Her goal is to help patients manage their endocrine disorders in such a way as to decrease their impact on the patients’ ability to lead healthier, and more productive lives.

Dr. Shirley Kalwaney is the hospitalist leader for the inpatient diabetes and medicine consultative service at Inova Fairfax Hospital. She graduated from Chicago Medical School and completed her internal medicine residency at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC. Dr. Kalwaney is program director of the Inova/Georgetown Transitional Residency Program and associate program director for the Inova Internal Residency Program.

Dr. Kalwaney holds faculty appointments at Georgetown University, George Washington University and Virginia Commonwealth University schools of medicine. In 2008 she was named Top Clinical Educator in Internal Medicine from the VCU School of Medicine Inova Campus. Dr. Kalwaney is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and is certified in advanced diabetes management.

Chris Detrick is an integral part of the diabetes/endocrinology service at Inova Fairfax Hospital. She takes pride in providing diabetes management and education for inpatients. Her goal is to provide patients with the knowledge they need to manage their diabetes after discharge, with close follow-up care to prevent readmission to the hospital.

Chris is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, Virginia Academy of Physician Assistants, and the American Society of Endocrine Physician Assistants.
