2025 Summer Volunteering: High School & College Students

The high school and college student summer programs receive a high volume of interest and applicants. As a result, selection to the summer program is by lottery.
Children of Inova team members and returning volunteers are exempt from the lottery but are required to register.
Students are considered high school students through the summer following their high school graduation.
Students may register for multiple hospital locations but will be selected for one location only.
Only one entry per applicant is permitted.

Step 1:

Review the Key Dates and Times per Hospital Location below and decide which location and dates work best for your schedule.

Be at least 16 years of age on or before the start of the session you’re registering for
Commit to all dates outlined for each session (there are no alternative dates offered)
As a measure of maturity, all communication is required to come directly from the student
Complete and pass a background check
Complete 2 rounds of tuberculosis screening OR 1 tuberculosis blood test
Provide confirmation of receiving the MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella (Chickenpox), Tdap for Pertussis (Whooping Cough) vaccines OR proof of immunity via titer
Attend an in person information meeting with a parent
Attend an in person orientation session
Complete online training

Be at least 18 years of age

Complete and pass a background check

Attend a virtual information meeting
Attend an in person orientation session
Complete online training
