A team of physicians comprised of cardiologists from both Inova Cardiology and Virginia Heart provide the specialized expertise to evaluate, treat and monitor cardio-oncology patients.

Patients are scheduled to be seen at the outpatient office in the Inova Cardiology – Fairfax office located in the Inova Specialty Center, adjacent to Inova Schar Cancer Institute, or at the Inova Cardiology offices in Alexandria or Fair Oaks. Patients can also be seen at the Virginia Heart office locations in Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, Reston and Vienna.

Inova Schar Cancer and Inova Schar Heart and Vascular's D'Aniello Chair, Cardio-Oncology

Ana Barac, MD, PhD, FACC, FAHA, is the Inova Schar Cancer and Inova Schar Heart and Vascular's D'Aniello Chair, Cardio-Oncology. Dr. Barac also serves as Medical Director of the program. This leadership position represents a substantial enhancement to Inova’s Cardio-Oncology program made possible through the generous support of Dan and Gayle D'Aniello.

Dr. Barac was previously Director of the Medstar Heart and Vascular Institute's Cardio-Oncology program. She is a Professor of Medicine at Georgetown University, was the founding Chair of the ACC Cardiology Cardio-Oncology Council and serves as co-director of the ACC annual Live Course on Advancing Cardiovascular Care in Oncology patients. She has chaired Heart House Roundtables at ACC’s headquarters on Cardiovascular Disease and Cancer Treatment and has been a member of writing committees for multidisciplinary professional society guidelines and consensus documents addressing cardiovascular concerns in patients with cancer. She serves on the Editorial Board of JACC, is a Senior Advisor for JACC: Cardio-Oncology and Editorial Consultant for JACC: Heart Failure.

Her clinical and research interests focus on advanced cardiovascular imaging and the applications of cardiac magnetic resonance and echocardiography in investigations of cardiovascular effects of cancer therapies.

Subash B. Bazaz, MD

Subash B. Bazaz, MD

Dr. Subash B. Bazaz is board certified in cardiovascular disease and internal medicine. He is a member of Virginia Heart and is based in the Reston and Loudoun offices locations. He also serves as Director of Non-invasive Studies in the Catheterization Lab at Inova Loudoun Hospital.

Kelly C. Epps-Anderson, MD

Kelly C. Epps-Anderson, MD

Co-founder, Inova Cardio-Oncology Program

Dr. Kelly Epps-Anderson is board certified in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology. She is a member of the Inova Cardiology medical practice and is based in the Fairfax office. Dr. Epps-Anderson also serves as Director of the Inova Women's Cardiovascular Health Center and is part of Inova’s Structural Heart Disease team.

She has a special interest in women's cardiovascular health and is passionate about educating women about their cardiovascular disease risk, prevention strategies and early recognition of symptoms of cardiovascular disease. She has recently been named the President, American Heart Association Greater Washington Region.

Dr. Jennifer A. Shea, MD, FACC, is board certified in cardiovascular disease, adult comprehensive echocardiography, and nuclear cardiology. She is a member of Virginia Heart and is based in the Vienna Office.

Dr. Shea has a special interest women's heart health as well as general and preventive cardiology.

Ifeoma J. Ugonabo, MD

Ifeoma J. Ugonabo, MD

Dr. Ifeoma Ugonabo is a specialty care physician board certified in internal medicine and nuclear medicine. She joined Inova in 2024 and has been practicing since 2011.

Prior to joining Inova, Dr. Ugonabo was Director of Structural Echocardiography at Methodist Health Care; physician at Baptist Health Care and Methodist Health Care; and noninvasive cardiologist/interventional echocardiographer and Director of Structural Echocardiography at the University of Tennessee, Methodist Health Care in Memphis, TN.

Dr. Raymond H. Vlacancich, DO, is board certified in cardiovascular disease, echocardiography and nuclear cardiology. He has a special interest in the management of cardiovascular disease prevention and sports cardiology.

Qiong Zhao, MD, PhD

Qiong Zhao, MD, PhD

Dr. Qiong "Joan" Zhao is board certified in cardiovascular disease. Her clinical interests include Structural heart diseases, pulmonary hypertension, women’s heart disease and cardio-oncology. She is part of the Inova Cardiology medical practice and is based in the Fairfax office. Dr. Zhao also serves as Medical Director of Echocardiography at Inova Schar Heart and Vascular and is active in both research and teaching activities. She has been serving on committees of the American Society of Echocardiography since 2010, and she is currently the Clinical President of the Chinese American Academy of Cardiology.
