Our vascular laboratory provides a variety of ultrasound testing procedures to assist in diagnosing your vascular condition. These noninvasive tests check blood flow in your arteries and veins using high-frequency sound waves (ultrasound). Vascular studies can assist in detecting blood clots, artery blockages and aneurysms, and providing other information that may help diagnose and treat your vascular disease. Our certified vascular technologists use state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment to perform tests, which our board-certified and fellowship-trained vascular surgeons interpret.

The Vascular Risk Reduction Program is a specialty program dedicated to the evaluation and management of vascular risk factors. Our focus is optimizing the medical management of patients with known peripheral arterial disease. The Vascular Risk Reduction Program staff have the experience and expertise to assist with evaluation and management of hyperlipidemia, hypertension, smoking and other vascular risk factors, as well as management of anticoagulants and antiplatelet medications, diet counseling and exercise. After a comprehensive visit, recommendations will be developed for each patient regarding their vascular care. The patient will return to the appropriate setting (Family Practice, Cardiology, Internal Medicine, Vascular Surgery) to implement the recommendations as desired.

Limb loss has profound implications for quality of life and long-term survival. The goal of Inova's Limb Preservation Program is to reduce symptoms, improve function, protect limbs from amputation and prevent death from cardiovascular disease.

Our program combines the expertise of vascular surgery for restoring blood flow alongside advanced wound healing therapeutic options. This provides our patients with a wide range of options when treating vascular disease. While early intervention yields the best results in being able to preserve limbs, we also successfully treat advanced disease where patients have been told amputation is their only option.

Treatment Options

  • Treatment for Poor Circulation
  • Wound Healing
  • Grafting of Skin Substitutes
  • Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBO)
  • Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP)

For most people the body naturally heals when it has a wound. But for those who have difficulty healing, specialized treatment may be required. Non-healing wounds can occur for many reasons, including diabetes or other chronic disease, poor circulation, nutritional status or age and body size.

Inova offers comprehensive wound healing centers for the treatment of complex wounds with delays or potential for delay in healing. The expert care and collaboration amongst our centers make Inova the best choice for your care.

We currently offer both in-person and virtual consultations at all four locations.

Innovative New Treatments

TCAR is a minimally invasive alternative to standard carotid stenting, with proven advantages, especially for patients at higher risk of surgical complications, due to age, medical comorbidities or anatomical issues.

Advances in percutaneous endovascular techniques have vastly improved the capability to treat CLI and avoid amputation. The treatment has been successful even for older patients and those with severe comorbidities, including diabetes, renal failure and failed prior interventions. Early evaluation is essential.
