About Vishwas C. Patel, DO

Dr. Vishwas Patel is a board-certified and fellowship-trained Primary Care Sports Medicine Physician who joined Inova in 2021. He specializes in ultrasound-guided procedures and injections to treat a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions and injuries.

A native of Pennsylvania, Dr. Patel completed his residency at Penn State Health, where he was honored with the C.A.R.E. Award—recognizing a resident who consistently demonstrated courtesy, appreciation, respect, and empathy beyond expectations.

Following residency, he completed a Sports Medicine fellowship at VCU-Fairfax, part of the National Capital Sports Medicine Consortium. His clinical experience includes serving as a fellow team physician for the Washington Spirit (NWSL), Division I George Mason University, DC Divas, local high schools, and the Special Olympics. He has also provided sports physicals for athletes at the United States Military Academy at West Point, American University, Marymount University, and the Washington Nationals.

Dr. Patel has a strong passion for international medicine, having participated in medical missions to Nicaragua, Peru, Ghana, and India. He also travels annually to Honduras with the Inova Family Medicine Residency, serving in a faculty role. Together, they have provided care to hundreds of children and adults in remote villages through continuity clinics.

He is actively involved in academic medicine, teaching medical students, residents, and fellows from institutions including the University of Virginia School of Medicine, Georgetown University School of Medicine, Virginia Commonwealth University, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, and Fort Belvoir. Dr. Patel enjoys mentoring future physicians and remains committed to medical education.

He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, and the Arnold P. Gold Humanism Honor Society.
