Dr. Rebecca Matro is a specialty care physician board certified in internal medicine, gastroenterology and hepatology. She joined Inova in 2025 and has been practicing since 2008. She specializes in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
Before joining Inova, Dr. Matro was an IBD specialist and assistant professor of medicine at Oregon Health and Sciences University in Portland, OR. Most recently, she served as clinical associate professor of medicine and Director of Intestinal Ultrasound at Scripps Clinic in La Jolla, CA.
Dr. Matro offers compassionate, comprehensive and multidisciplinary care to patients with IBD. She works closely with colorectal surgeons, dieticians, radiologists and other specialists to provide state-of-the-art IBD care. Dr. Matro treats patients with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis and has a special interest in the care of women with IBD and those planning pregnancy and nursing. Dr. Matro also incorporates intestinal ultrasound, a non-invasive, point-of-care test that can be performed during a routine clinic visit to monitor IBD activity and assess the response to treatments. She values shared decision-making and works closely with her patients to help them have an active and normal quality of life, not limited by IBD.
Her clinical interests include checkpoint inhibitor colitis and microscopic colitis. Dr. Matro is also actively involved in training residents and fellows. She has lectured locally, regionally and nationally to both patients and providers.
In her free time, Dr. Matro enjoys spending time with her son and dog, playing tennis, running, cycling, reading, traveling and trying new restaurants.
