Dr. Rebecca Kaltman is a breast medical oncologist and the inaugural Executive Director of the Inova Saville Cancer Screening and Prevention Center at Inova Schar Cancer. She has played a pivotal role in the conception, launch, and success of this first-of-its-kind center, which centralizes prevention, diagnostics, and education in a single location.
Dr. Kaltman earned her undergraduate honors degree from the University of Michigan and her medical degree from MCP-Hahnemann University School of Medicine. She completed her training in internal medicine and medical oncology at the University of Pennsylvania. Following her training, she joined the faculty at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine as a breast oncologist and clinical researcher at the Rena Rowan Breast Center, part of the Abramson Cancer Center.
Throughout her career, Dr. Kaltman has focused on caring for patients with breast cancer and those with hereditary cancer syndromes. At Inova, she has expanded cancer prevention and early detection services across Northern Virginia and beyond. She launched a mobile cancer screening bus to bring care to at-risk communities and developed clinical research studies aimed at identifying optimal cancer screening strategies for firefighters. Additionally, she has served as a principal investigator for next-generation cancer screening clinical trials and helped design a comprehensive colon cancer screening strategy that significantly increased screening rates across the health system.
In recognition of her exemplary leadership and dedication, Dr. Kaltman was appointed to the Health Policy Committee of the American Society of Clinical Oncology for a three-year term and serves on the board of the Cancer Action Coalition of Virginia.
