Jessica Hughes Day has been a practicing certified nurse midwife since 2012. She graduated with a master of science in nursing from the University of Illinois at Chicago, specializing in nurse midwifery. She began her midwifery journey in her hometown of Charleston, SC, where she practiced at the Medical University of South Carolina until 2022. She then moved to Vienna, VA, to help launch Inova’s first midwifery group, Inova Midwives – Willow Oaks, which provides both outpatient ambulatory care and 24/7 inpatient care at Inova Fairfax Hospital.
Her clinical areas of passion are contraception and family planning, prenatal care, delivery, postpartum care, perinatal mental health, some OB ultrasound, Centering Pregnancy, and annual well-woman care. Jessica is also the Advanced Practice Provider Lead for Women’s Services at Inova.
Jessica has lived and worked overseas in Sri Lanka and Uganda, providing women’s health services with the medical aid community during emergent crisis times. She is a member of the American College of Nurse Midwives, and she works extensively with the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology District 4 as a midwifery liaison. She is a published author and researcher, and she most recently was an investigator for the PRIME study on preterm birth.
In her personal time, Jessica loves spending time with her family. She is married to Scott Sullivan, who is a high-risk pregnancy physician at Inova. They have six children between them, most recently welcoming a son in 2022 and daughter in 2024, both delivered at Inova. In their spare time, they visit family, travel, hike, fish, hang at the beach, and spend as much time outdoors as possible. Jessica is also a passionate home chef and yoga practitioner.
