About Jennifer Matro, MD

Dr. Jennifer Matro is a specialty care physician board certified in medical oncology who specializes in the treatment of all types of breast cancer. She joined Inova in 2025 and has been practicing since 2008.

Before joining Inova, she served on the faculty as a breast oncologist and Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Most recently, she served as an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine and Clinical Service Chief in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at the University of California San Diego.

Dr. Matro offers compassionate, multidisciplinary care to provide her patients with the most appropriate and advanced treatment. Throughout her career, she has focused on treating all types of invasive breast cancer, with expertise and interest in metastatic breast cancer and the unique needs of young women, pregnant women, and athletes diagnosed with breast cancer.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Matro has taught medical students, residents and fellows. She also lectures regionally and nationally to educate community oncologists and other practitioners about the most recent advances in breast cancer care. She is actively involved in research and clinical trials aimed at reducing the risk of breast cancer recurrence and optimizing the treatment of advanced breast cancer.

Dr. Matro completed a hematology/oncology fellowship at Fox Chase Cancer Center at Temple University Hospital, where she was named chief fellow during her third year and twice earned an American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) merit award. Dr. Matro completed her residency and earned her medical degree from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. She is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

In her free time, Dr. Matro enjoys spending time with her daughter and goldendoodle. She also likes running, hiking, cycling, traveling and trying new restaurants.
