Dr. Dipankar Mukherjee is a specialty care physician board certified in general and vascular surgery and serves as Chief of Vascular Surgery at Inova Fairfax Hospital. He has been a medical staff member at Inova Fairfax Hospital since 1990.
Dr. Mukherjee is a registered vascular technologist and peripheral vascular interpreter. He currently practices only vascular surgery and specializes in the management of aortic aneurysms (open and minimally invasive technique), carotid artery surgery, dialysis access, and laser treatment of varicose veins and blockages in all arteries. Dr. Mukherjee became interested in vascular surgery because he could help his patients by performing minimally invasive endovascular procedures and open surgery to treat various vascular issues and improve their quality of life.
Dr. Mukherjee was selected by the Society for Vascular Surgery Executive Board to be a member of their writing group, working on the Global vascular guidelines on the management of chronic limb-threatening ischemia (GVG CLTI). He is a steering committee member for the Senior Group of the Society of Vascular Surgery. He participates in several ongoing national and international trials to manage abdominal aortic aneurysms and carotid and peripheral arterial diseases. He has authored over 120 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters and is a speaker at major national vascular conferences.
Dr. Mukherjee was born in India. He has served in the U.S. Army as Chief of Vascular Surgery at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, WA. He currently resides in Northern Virginia with his wife. He has two daughters who are both physicians and four grandchildren who are their pride and joy. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, watching cricket and playing tennis.
